We may say that Nuno Barreto is one of the few pioneers to become professional sailor in Portugal. As the majority of the world sailing beginners, Nuno took his first steps aboard in an Optimist (under 14). From there, he got more and more enthusiastic with the sport and National titles came in a row – more than a dozen in different dinghy classes and narrowly the same number at yachts different classes.

He participated in three Olympics – Atlanta, Sidney and Athens – with two different partners on helmsman (Hugo Rocha and Diogo Cayolla on the last one) and got away with a Bronze Medal in the 470 Class and a 16th and 15th place in the Tornados.

Nuno entered the world class sailors’ board due to the outstanding and consecutive performances like 2 European Champion titles, silver medalist in one World Championships and many 1st places in different countries around the world.

As a very methodic and analytical crewman, Nuno became someone every skipper wanted aboard his boat. The proof of that is shown on the short but already full curriculum in TP-52’s, GP-42, Farr40 and Swan45 and, most of all, being invited to make part of the Desafio Español Crew for the last America’s Cup held in Valencia.

His Olympic campaigns were also complemented with the management of the Sailing Training Center of Clube Naval de Cascais and as environmental consultant due to his engineer degree.

All these enriching experiences not only brought the acknowledgement from the Portuguese State with several medals, but also along with his natural captivating and communication skills, are being used by Nuno in his various conferences and corporate team building speeches he is invited for.
